| My name is Jason Gizen and I live in a small Rural town called Prelate in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. I presently farm and have a small trucking business that hauls grain for local farmers. Growing up I always dreamed of flying and becoming a pilot. I would watch the birds fly around the farm and watch the crop dusters when they sprayed the crops in the summer. My uncle is a pilot; I flew with him several times and always enjoyed flying in his aircraft. I would always buy the kit plane magazines and daydream about flying the aircraft in the magazine. I can remember back one summer evening, driving over the South Saskatchewan River near Empress, Alberta I saw a yellow bi-plane flying low along the river off into the sunset. I thought I want to do that someday so I looked into getting my pilots licence but the cost and the time involved scared me away from it. My thoughts about ultra-lights at that time were, "a motorized lawn chair with wings which is too bad because I was living in Lethbridge, Alberta at the time and I drove past an ultra-light flight school almost every day to work. A few years passed by and I moved back to the farm in Saskatchewan. In 2002 there was an gyroplane flight school about 40 miles from our farm so I decided to go for an introductory flight in a RAF 2000 Gyroplane. From that moment on, I was hooked; all I could think about was flying. I had taken a few lessons in the RAF 2000 Gyroplane and really enjoyed the training, however to get the licence cost as much or more than a private pilot's licence. I knew I couldn't afford that anytime soon, so I started looking around on the Internet and discovered there were some pretty impressive ultra-lights out there. I booked an introductory flight in a Husky Norseman II which is very similar to the Bushmaster II. I was so impressed that I decided to train on the Husky Norseman II rather than the Gyroplane. The Bushmaster II and Husky Norseman II are such fun and stable aircraft to fly and great for training on. I finished my ultra-light permit in March 20003 and my Ultra instructor's rating in September 2006. I want to keep taking more flight training myself and I hope some day to get my ag pilot training and get into areal crop spraying. |
